The moment I walked away, I knew I would regret it. When I closed my eyes, I could still see you just sitting, sitting and staring at me with those big brown eyes of yours, disbelieving what was happening, hoping that you were wrong. Willing with all your might that it could be otherwise. 

Even now, it’s hard to think of you that way. 

That whole week had been rough between us. I knew that I would be going away and I knew that I would be leaving you. I knew that it would be hard. I wanted to spend more time with you, but I knew that I couldn’t. We would both have to rely on our memories and the hope that fate would bring us back together.

But I knew when the weekend was over, I’d come back to you and your wagging little tail.
